Rare Backdown Hills cider barrel garden gate

Rare Backdown Hills cider barrel garden gate

£225.00

Primitive and rare garden gate made from a cider barrel from the Blackdown Hills.

Split between Somerset and Devon the Blackdown Hills are designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty AONB (we should know we live here) and has long been association with traditional family cider making.

This rare garden gate was made by one of those cider making families when the barrel had reached the end of its life for holding cider and was made into a gate to supplement the household income. It is made of oak (staves) and retains the bent form (bulge), we just love this and have only ever had two before (a large one we have kept)

In great order commensurate with its age and previous life.

Dimensions: 35” (89cm) wide x 34” (87cm) high
