Antique French confit pot yellow - medium sized

These wonderfully decorative jars or clay pots originate in France.

They date from the early 1800’s right through to the late 1800s.  Used to store Confit Du Canard they would have originally had a lid or stopper which is no longer present.

These pots are getting harder to source and these pots characteristically have the classic yellow coloured pottery and glaze.

The condition of all the pots we sell are good but commensurate with age and use so the odd chip / hairline crack is to be expected.

Due to their robust nature, they have survived the passage of time in kitchens, gardens and barns all over France.  They are often found as abandoned garden decorations regionally.

Perfect empty as a sculptural item or a centre piece with dried flowers.  The vessel is not waterproof and if using for fresh flowers you would need to insert a waterproof liner

Please expect, handle damage (normally during firing) the odd crack, cracks to glaze, the odd repair, the odd chip/s, damage to glaze, damage to the body of pot to the lip, base and glaze and some have holes drilled in the base. Their beauty is in their imperfect and rustic nature.

Fine and very rare pair of early 18th Century oak hunting lodge refectory tables.

Provenance: Estate made early 18th century bases with later 19th Century tops from the hunting lodge at Ston Easton Park, near Bath.

Exceptionally rare to discover a pair of these beautiful tables. Simple estate made construction probably using oak from the actual estate and today still very functional.

The bases are gnarly and wonderfully worn and above the heavy tops have developed a warm tactile beauty whilst showing the battle scars from years of use.

The tops (which are very heavy) have never been attached to the bases so should you wish to increase the overall height, simple add a “packer” to the tops of the base ends (or we can do this for you)

These tables were removed from the hunting lodge at Ston Easton park near Bath.

Stunning and Rare American Victorian heavy cast iron Kramer Brothers Bench. Circa 1890

This bench and pattern were originally called the "Gothic Settee" and registered by the Carron Company in the mid 1800s and recast by many American foundries during the 19th century.

This Gothic pattern bench was also featured in the White House Rose Garden designed by Jackie Kennedy.

The bench itself has sat outside for many years and as such has taken on a lovely patina if various shades of country greens..overall in great order with no damage, very comfortable and very, very heavy! .

Wonderful and imposing pair of classical English leather wingback armchairs in a soft and worn green leather.

Really substantial pair, wide seated and a great stance.

The leather worn beautifully with years of use, just right in fact.

The condition overall is really surprisingly good, one chair has a small indent to the back, not punctured, and the other chair had a small repair to the side (as shown) the overall wear is lovely and commensurate with the chairs and life!

The frames are solid with no movement and the exposed figured woodwork is in great order.

French street artists Easel dated 1957.

Is it the real thing or an extraordinary art installation all of its own?

If its the later then it almost certainly by Jean Luc Jerome.

It’s simply an incredible thing, with all working mechanical components still working. There is a cog and handle system for wing the piece of art up or down for height adjustment and a draw string system for the opening of the paint hoppers lid..

It’s also accompanied by its original yellow paint splattered seat.

The original lights are present, one at the top and one to the side which covers the brushes, opening doors the base to expose a host of paint cans and its easily movable on its wheels.

Overall, a very striking, crazy piece art? of was it trundled around the streets of Paris in the 50’s - you decide?

Early 19th Century Anglo Indian low occasional table with inset fossilised top

Wonderfully presented early 19th Century, low occasional table or coffee table, produced most likely in Bareilly around 1830.

Classically formed and decorated in period parcel gilt, the inset top (removable) is a one piece slab of stone containing a myriad of fossils, quite stunning!

Would have one time had castors we suspect but have long since gone!

Exuberant Madness!

So…what to make of this thing then? proper indulgent fantasies!

Firstly, we love it, absolutely bonkers but great….

French, around the middle of the 20th Century.

A substantial internal planter and we think made for Bonsai, they would fit very well, don’t you agree?

The main planter is made of wood with an old zinc liner, the feet, the frogs and the cheetah’s? are pottery, probably faience.

The whole thing is in wonderful order, there have been a few repairs to the zinc liner but nothing that affects its use.

Mostly its a joy to gaze at, its mad enough to be a keeper but for a minute its for sale (until I change my mind)

Kim James original framed plaster sculptured 3D panel of Adam and Eve in wonderful order throughout.

Date of sculpture unknown

Alexander von Moltke held a James retrospective in 2002, with work unseen in public for several decades, this wonderful panel of Adam and Eve was purchased during this gallery exhibition in early 2003. The original bill of sale will be included with the piece.

Kim James 1928-2011

Sculptor and teacher, who studied at the Borough Polytechnic, 1948–54, under David Bomberg and Tom Eckersley, and at the Royal College of Art. Took part in group exhibitions at RBA, 1959; Wildenstein, 1961; Arthur Jeffress and Grosvenor Galleries, 1963; AIA, 1963–4; and RA, 1967–9. James’ figurative-towards-abstraction pieces were given a solo exhibition at Hanover Gallery, 1966. Carried out commissions for the Churches of St Nicholas at Hayes, Middlesex, and St Matthew’s at Bethnal Green; a crucifix for the Franciscan Brothers in Dorset; and sculpture and relief work for Hoveringham Gravels Ltd, Nottingham. James gave up art in 1969, having been head of art therapy at what became the University of Hertfordshire. He retrained as a scientist and became a successful management consultant in cybernetics.

His sculptures were acquired by a number of public collections, including one in Brussels. James was born and eventually settled in Wollaston, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

A totally unique and rare opportunity to own this very sought after piece of beautiful wall sculpture.

Fine example of a rare 19th Century Yew Windsor chair.

Just occasionally a rare and unusual version of the trusty Windsor chair comes into ones possession, this is that one!

So extensively made in yew wood with an elm seat and a well raked back, but particularly interesting and unusual is the Christmas tree mid back splat, the reeded top hoop detail, the wonderful cut relief to the underside of the arms which allows the fingers to fit snuggly and of course the crinoline stretcher to the underside of the chair.

Thus making this a truly unusual and desirable chair that sets itself out side of the norm!

Oh did we mention the colour, well, just look at it….its the perfection of golden chestnut with all of the colour and wear in all of the correct places.

A chair collectors dream and in beautiful condition.

Pair of Antique Chinese Hardstone and Cloisonné Prunus Bonsai Trees

A striking pair of antique Chinese hard stone bonsai trees, each meticulously crafted from hardsstone with cloisonné enamel jardiniere detailing. These decorative trees represent the prunus (plum) blossom, a classic symbol of resilience and renewal in East Asian art. Their sculptural forms and rich surface decoration make them an elegant focal point for a mantel, sideboard, or a curated cabinet of curiosities.

Chinese Circa 1920..

Both trees are in very good antique condition with expected minor surface wear consistent with age; stable enamel and intact gilt details, no significant restoration.

Each tree is set into delightful cloisonné jardinieres, the trunk rising naturally and branching into multiple limbs with vibrant plum blossoms.

The foliage and petals are crafted from semi-precious hardstones including jade, agate, amethyst, and soapstone and the soil again is crushed hard stone.

The prunus blossom is frequently depicted in Chinese decorative arts for its early spring bloom, representing perseverance and the promise of renewal. Magnificent 19th Century copper boiler / kettle by renowned American copper smiths Thomas Burkhard.

The Thomas Burkhard Company, a maker of copper kettles, was founded in 1836 by Peter Burkhard at 61 Vesey Street in New York City. Thomas Burkhard (1839- 1916), Peter's son, inherited the company upon the death of his father.

So it’s simply incredible and well stamped with the Burkhard name.

We have had our wonderfully talented blacksmith make the hand forged stand, (now bolted to the vessel) which we think gives it real presence..Drain holes present for planting!
