Indonesian Flying Garuda Statue

Indonesian Flying Garuda Statue
A wonderfully vibrant flying Garuda statue.
Indonesian mid 20th Century
The Garuda bird is a significant figure in Hindu mythology, depicted as a powerful creature that serves as the vehicle of Vishnu, possessing both avian and human features. It plays various roles in myths, including striking the elephant Shvetarashmi and attempting to rescue it through a chaste woman's intervention. The Garuda is also noted for fighting venomous snakes and has inspired tactical formations in combat. Additionally, it symbolises escape and innovation through its representation as a 'Flying Vehicle.'
In great condition with hanging hook to its back, the wings are seperate and fit into slots in the body.
